About St. John the Apostle Catholic Church

Mission Statement

St. John the Apostle Catholic Church welcomes all people, wherever they may be on their faith journey, to join our parish family as we strive to grow in our relationship with Jesus Christ. Putting our faith into action, we demonstrate the love of Christ in our lives and in the Ellettsville-Bloomington community.

Vision Statement

The parish family of St. John the Apostle embraces the teachings of Jesus Christ, handed down to us from the Apostles. Through the grace of the Sacraments, we share the Gospel message with each other, with the local community and the world around us as we seek:

• To provide a welcoming environment for all who come to visit or to join our parish family, fostering in them a sense of having found a spiritual home.

• To encourage in all parishioners a desire to learn more about our Catholic faith through various educational opportunities, including a variety of media to suit their own preferred styles of learning.

• To encourage the development of each person's gifts and talents to be used to build up the Body of Christ. In such a way, each person will know that they are important, that they are part of our universal church family.

• To support our parishioners as they spread the love of Christ to the world around us by more deeply living the truths of our Catholic faith.

We carry this out through good stewardship of our spiritual and material resources, daily living the call of Christ by following in His footsteps.

The Remarkable History of the ‘People’s Parish’ and the Faithful Stewardship of Time, Talent and Treasure.

By: Denise Sawyer

This 240-page history, written by Denise Sawyer, is illustrated with hundreds of photos from the past 50 years. It is the story of the first new parish to be built in the Archdiocese after Vatican II. The following 50 years would bring both cultural and social changes, and in the 1990’s, the church sold their valuable property and relocated to our present location.
