The music ministry plays a vital role in the life of the parish at St. John's. A good way to participate in the Liturgy is through our music program. St. John's choirs are open to anyone who wants to join and there are no auditions. Some musical training and the ability to read music is helpful.

Sunday: The Sunday choir sings at the 9:15 a.m. Mass, September-Pentecost. The choir provides musical leadership during Sunday morning worship, as well as major Solemnities and Feast Days. We are a diverse and friendly community. No experience is necessary, but regular attendance at rehearsals is essential. Section leaders are present to strengthen the ensemble and to assist with learning new music. The choir provides a great opportunity to develop vocal and musical skills, and to sing great works of sacred choral literature of all styles and periods.

Membership is open to all singers, high school age and up.

Rehearsals are on Sundays at 8:00 a.m., before Mass. There is no midweek rehearsal.

Saturday: Cantors are scheduled for the 5:00 p.m. Mass on Saturdays. However, all singers are welcome to join. Rehearsals are at 4:00 p.m.

The Youth Choir sings at various Masses throughout the year and also in December for the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols. This is a children's choir for beginners through Middle School. Rehearsals are scheduled as needed.

The St. Cecilia choir performs a valuable service to the parish community by singing at funeral liturgies. Members of this choir of course must be available on short notice. Rehearsals generally are one hour prior to the funeral.

The schola prepares Gregorian chant for special Masses throughout the year. Rehearsals are on Tuesdays from 7-8:00 p.m.

Instrumentalists are always welcome and usually accompany the singing for special occasions.

Soloists should check with the Director of Music about the possibility of playing at Mass, or for weddings or other occasions.

Instrumental ensembles play at various special Masses throughout the year.

The annual schedule of rehearsals and performances is available from the Director of Music.
